AI Search Visibility Audit
An audit of whether AI answer engines can actually find, parse, trust and cite you. Most sites fail on one of four things, and the failure is rarely the one the team expects.
Get an Agent Trust Gap BriefFour gates, in order
A citation requires all four. Failing any one makes the others irrelevant, which is why generic SEO work often produces no AI visibility at all — it optimises gate three while gate one is closed.
1. Access
Can the crawler reach the page at all? robots.txt, CDN rules, WAF behaviour, JS-only rendering. Most surprises live here.
2. Extractability
Is there a clean, standalone answer near the top? Content that only makes sense in context does not get quoted.
3. Trust
Sourcing, dates, named authorship, and claims that carry evidence. Unsourced assertion is the most common reason a page is read and not cited.
4. Consensus
Does the claim appear anywhere other than your own site? Single-source claims are the hardest to surface.
What the audit produces
- Crawler access reality. Which AI crawlers can actually reach you, verified by request rather than by reading your robots.txt — including whether a CDN or WAF is quietly blocking agents your robots.txt permits.
- Extractability scoring, page by page. Whether a definition-first answer exists in the first 40–60 words and survives being lifted out of context. This is what determines whether you get quoted or summarised away.
- Entity clarity. Whether your organisation, products and people resolve to consistent entities across your schema and the wider web. Ambiguous entities do not get cited confidently.
- Off-site consensus map. Where else the claim appears. A claim that exists only on your own domain is a claim an answer engine has no reason to repeat.
- A prioritised fix list with effort and expected effect, ordered so the gates open in sequence rather than in parallel.
Common questions
How is this different from an SEO audit?
A traditional SEO audit optimises for ranking in a list of links. This audits whether an answer engine can extract a quotable answer and has enough corroboration to repeat it. The overlap is real but partial — sites rank well and go uncited routinely.
Which engines does it cover?
The crawler and citation behaviour of the major AI answer surfaces, plus AI Overviews. Access is verified by request, not by assumption.
What is usually the biggest problem?
Off-site consensus. Most organisations have never published anything anywhere else, so every claim is single-source. It is also the cheapest thing to fix.
Do we need to rewrite the whole site?
Usually not. The pattern is that a small number of pages carry the commercial weight, and definition-first rewrites plus schema on those pages moves most of the result.
How long does it take?
It is scoped to the site. The output is a prioritised fix list ordered by gate, so work can start on the highest-leverage item immediately rather than waiting for the full pass.
